Hi, My name is Maya Taylor, and I am a junior at the University of Louisiana at Monroe,
majoring in Elementary Education. I am incredibly grateful for the support this scholarship has
provided me throughout my college journey.
Receiving the Charles H. Brown Scholarship has eased many financial burdens, allowing
me to purchase textbooks, supplies, and scrubs. Additionally, as part of my coursework, I travel
to various schools to teach lessons and observe classrooms, and this scholarship has helped
cover my travel expenses, including gas.
Since graduating in 2022, I have been honored to receive this scholarship. I am so
grateful and blessed to be a recipient of one of the Charles H. Brown Scholarships. Thank you
for supporting me while I chase my dreams.

My name is Ava Taylor, and I am currently in my second semester of nursing school at
the University of Louisiana at Monroe. This scholarship has been an incredible blessing in many
ways. Nursing school is quite expensive and is not fully supported by financial aid, meaning that
all essential expenses—such as textbooks and school supplies—must come out of my personal
finances. Thanks to this scholarship, I have been able to afford the materials I need to succeed in
my courses.
Additionally, I have a twin sister who also attends ULM, which doubles the financial
strain on my family. College is already costly for one student, so covering expenses for two can
be overwhelming. This scholarship has significantly eased the financial burden on my parents,
allowing them to focus on supporting both of us without as much stress.
Besides academic expenses, this scholarship has also helped me afford dorm essentials,
such as bedding and curtains, making my living space more comfortable. I am truly grateful and
honored to have received this scholarship for the past three years. It has made a big difference in
my education, and I sincerely appreciate the individuals who have made this opportunity
possible.
